[HTML5/Windows v1.2.0] The World Is Web: Browser port and bug fixes
It's four and a half years since you released your game, and the volume sliders are still nonexistent.
You should probably do something about that.
The World Is Weird is now available to play in your browser!
The downloadable version has been patched to upgrade the game's backend to Adventure Game Studio v3.6.0. This is a pretty big technical overhaul that I had nothing to do with but gives me lovely tools to work with. This will break any saves you may have had, but! It also means the game will properly anti-alias sprites if you run it in full screen. It should also keep the game stable on modern machines for a bit longer. So that's nice.
If you've already played the game, this patch doesn't add anything new in the way of content. The puzzles, pacing, artwork and audio are the same - just slightly more polished.
BUG FIXES AND TWEAKS:
- Cutscenes: text can now be skipped (any button or left mouse)
- Audio: Volume sliders added, rebalanced sound effects, ambient tracks should now loop more cleanly.
- Grammar fixes: the font still doesn't have an apostrophe, so I got rid of contractions. Work smarter, not harder.
- Menus: New settings menu, graphics for save/load interface
- Fullscreen toggle: accessible via the settings menu (also via the cog in the web build)
- Plain font available: in case you can't read my handwriting
- Credits: Updated to reflect new modules, new sound effects, my new website, and whatnot
- Cursor: Fixed various issues where the cursor would suggest an interaction is available when it isn't
- Fixed softlocks: Important objects will now reset to their default state if flung off the screen or broken
- Fixed even more softlocks: The cloud in the stage area can now be smashed with the axe after it's been cut down, preventing a potential soft lock if it would otherwise cover the battery or postcard.
- New icons for the executables. Tick tock.
- A few minor jokes added.
KNOWN ISSUES:
- [Windows] Audio settings do not persist between saves: Unlike my newer games, The World is Weird will not attempt to write your volume settings to your computer. This function seemed to be setting off some people's antiviruses so I decided it wasn't worth keeping in a game this tiny.
- [Windows] Game sometimes still sets off antivirus: If this is still happening, the above attempt obviously failed. I promise the game isn't doing anything sketchy - AGS is just... old and weird. Try running it in administrator mode or playing the browser build instead.
- [Web] Redundant gear menu in the bottom-right: The World Is Weird doesn't have any persistent save data, and a fullscreen button is already part of the UI, so the cog isn't really necessary. But it's part of AGS's default web interface and I don't know how to remove it. Let me know in the comments if you do.
